Free programme tweaks

Tweaks to free programme:

STARTING POSITION: Go to starting position and raise the arms slowly into position.  Start with assymetric arms.  And a straight L leg.  Weight on the back (R) leg and L toe on the ice.

ADD A MOVE IN BETWEEN LOOP-LOOP AND AXEL: previously, I was doing a crossover after the loop (crossing R over L and pushing off onto RBO in preparation for axel).  Now, I’m adding a mohawk.  So after loop, step onto LFI (LFO?), then mohawk RFI to LBI, step onto RBO into axel.

FINISHING POSITION: previously I had assymetric arms as at the start.  Now, I finish the spin, glide towards judge, skid stop on L foot with both arms going forward.  Then slowly move the R arm in a circle down, back and into position above head.

General point, don’t eat the moves – chew the moves!  In other words, don’t just rush through each move, savour each one.

Level 4 free programme

More choreography – probably 1 min 40 or 1 min 50’s worth so far:

  • Start in middle of rink on L foot, with R toe behind
  • Push off onto LFO
  • LFO 3-turn
  • Step onto RBO
  • RBO back 3-turn
  • RBI to LBI mohawk, then hold LBI with arms above head
  • Cross overs up the rink (towards coffee area)
  • * Flip
  • Slow cross overs to 2/3 down the rink
  • * Axel
  • (After the axel, I tend to do a small circle on the RBO)
  • Step forward – down the rink – on LFO
  • Cross R over L, mohawk
  • * RBI entry into back camel-sit spin combo (needs 2 revs in each position)

New stuff:

  • After back spin, step onto LFO
  • Cross over onto RFI
  • RFI mohawk onto LBI
  • Push onto RFO, 3-turn once, and 3-turn again to RFO
  • Turn R foot onto RBI and step onto LFO
  • (Then IF time, do a chasse or if loads of time, do a little circle to get me ready for step sequence)

(Step sequence as before, which ends up on a RBI), then:

  • Step onto LFO
  • Cross over onto RFI
  • RFI mohawk onto LBI
  • Glide backwards on both feet (L leg is straight while R knee is bent, with weight on RBI) – body is rotated to the right with arms soaring overhead – think of the arms going up and back down again like taking a breath
  • Step onto LFO 3-turn
  • * Then into loop, loop
  • After landing the loop on RBO, do a little hop (sort of like a toe loop) off the R foot onto L toe and then land on RFI
  • Change to LFI
  • LFI mohawk to RBI
  • LBO, cross R foot over onto RBI, tap L foot down to change R edge onto RBO – ready for…
  • * Axel, loop (additional, second axel in combination as a safety)

Now just need a little more choreography to get me to a forward sit spin to finish it all off!

Free programme – Level 4

The first 1 min 20 secs or so:

  • Skate around for a few seconds (maybe do a small circle of 4 forward anticlockwise cross overs) to recover from spin dizzyness
  • Then get to barrier by judge to begin step sequence

Still need to insert two further elements:

  • Jump combination
  • A different spin

Free programme (Levels 1 to 3)

1 minute 30ish – skating to edited version of Perfidia.

Asterisked elements were required.

  • Start facing down the rink towards judge – L toe pick in the ice, R foot on the ice, with both hands over L hip. Sway hands to right, then back to left, then larger towards R. Then push off, 3-turn on L foot into…
  • *Flip
  • *Inside entry into back camel on the mwahhh
  • *Do Axel/Salchow, then move to end of the rink
  • *On piano, step sequence to other end – RFO rocker; cross L over R; LBI bracket; choctaw onto RBO, cross L over R, cross R under L, double 3s on R foot to end up on RBO, then change edge to RBI; step onto LFI loop; step onto RBI, do a back 3-turn onto RFO; step onto LFO loop; on end of loop, do 3-jump-like step onto toe, cross L over R; step onto LBI rocker, counter, rocker; step onto LFI bracket onto LBO, turn (back counter?) into L double 3s; step onto RFO and double double 3s.
  • RFO rocker – turn shoulders to R before the rocker
  • LBI loop – shoulders and arms face into circle (i.e. L arm forward, R arm back)
  • LFO loop – shoulders and arms face into circle (i.e. L arm back, R arm forward)
  • (Step sequence ends on R foot landing position)
  • Cross roll R over L; L cross behind R; then LFO 3-turn into flip-like entry, hop round to land LFO forward; RFI mohawk into LBI, then cross overs into centre of rink for *loop, loop combo
  • Crossovers (but crossing arms completely across chest so that elbows cross, then opening up fully into…) *LFO spiral
  • Swing R free leg to LBI into… *sit spin
  • End spin by coming up, opening up, and tapping R foot into the ice with L arm straight up by head and R arm out across L side

Free programme (Levels 1 to 3)

Ran through my Level 1/2/3 programme today and coach A said I should pass.

But a few minor improvements I need to be more mindful of:

  • Keep the arms level on the flip
  • Work on keeping the edges clean on the rocker, counter, rocker feature in the step sequence (as I was changing edge into 3-turns a little)
  • Keep upright and avoid letting the body fold on the loop loop combination
  • Stop properly after the final spin at the end of the programme.  Go down into the knee to absorb the momentum
